The best way is doing a practice book, preferably the Collegeboard book with 8 full practice tests. If you are able to push yourself to do these in your own time, then do so. If you feel like you will hold off studying without someone to guide you then spend the money on the class. Be warned though, SAT classes are basically just a way of putting you in a room and making you practice.

Go to the SAT website, they have practice tests on there.

The classes do help. You should consider them. Also take the practice tests on collegeboard.com. The College Board is responsible of the SAT, so their practice tests are usually the best. What helped me personally was taking the test multiple times. Each time I took it I was more relaxed and scored better. Good luck.

It depends if you work better independently or with a group of students. I’m taking a princeton review prep class because I easily get distracted so if you’re like me, you should take a class;) Also study like 5-10 new words a day. It’ll accumulate and sooner or later, your vocabulary will improve immensely! Just remember to review the old words so that they’ll stick! Good luck!
