I’ve taken the test two times already, 16 and 17 were my scores. Iam currently scheduled to retest 2/9/2008 can anyone help me get at least a 24? or point out some good books. Thanks in advance.

Well I am a sophomore in an IB course high school. My ultimate goal is to get in to a great college (hopefully Ivy League) and then go into the medical field. My current cumulative unweighted GPA is 3.87 [Got 1 B last year ]. My cumulative weighted GPA is 4.20. Last year I took 2 AP classes. And this year I am taking 4 AP classes. All of my other consist of all pre-IB (same thing as honors) as well as honors classes like algebra 2 and geometry last year. I intend to keep taking all the AP classes that I can as well of course the required IB curriculum. I am doing two sports cross country and track. I also do volunteer work for CAS hours for IB. I am currently still thinking of doing something that I am passionate about that will be good for the community. I am thinking of trying to host a local 5k run with charity toward a good cause. One thing that I am worried about is the SAT and ACT test. So my question is what are the best books to get to prepare for those tests in the next upcoming year. I have researched, but everyone says something diff rent. Maybe one of you used a book and has personal experience of doing well on those test. I need at least a cumulative 2000-2100 on the SAT and around a 29-30 on each of the ACT parts. I know this will all come from hard work. But I understand this is for my future. So I am willing to work hard. Any suggestion from you guys would be great. Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am ranked about 15th out of 400 students in my grade, and all my school courses are about the most rigorous they offer.
I wanted to see what the sat would be like, so i just took the registered for the sat’s and took it with no preparation at all….And i kind of picked random answers in the last section of the sat, i wasnt expecting the test to be that long!
I got my scores recently and i got
470 Critical Reading
420 Math
470 Writing
Thats a 1360, and from my research that isnt really a great score if i expect to get into a school that i want to attend like University of Penn, Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, and Columbia University. Hell, according to this site, Lynchburg College, I cant even get accepted to a school i never even heard of like Lynchburg College!

I plan on taking the Sat’s again around May. If I study during March and May, and take a Sat prep course, what would you guess my score would be based on my current score?

I’m a sophomore right now, and one of my priorities for the summer is to prepare myself for the upcoming SAT / ACT tests I’ll be taking as a junior.

If you’ve taken them, can you recommend a tutoring group that successfully helped you, like Kaplan or Princeton Review? And the books you used?
Also, how much time did you allocate during the summer to prepare for them? Did you find that it was enough to get you ready? I’m dedicating at least 2 weeks this summer to prepare — do you think that’s enough? On top of all the work I’ll be receiving as a junior, I’d prefer to have nailed the SATs for the most before the new school year commences.

Any tips, suggestions, memorabilia? All welcome. : )

I need help with grammar and writing (styles). Is there tutoring service available? Or is there any reputable company that offer such services (like a tutoring school?) The tutoring school that I have seem around my area is tutoring for ESL learning or for junior high schools or SAT preparation. But I need major help with grammar and writing styles aiming for essays and such. Thanks in advance.

I know there is no way to REALLY study and I know that I have a year [i believe] until I actually take them BUT, my mother wants me to start practicing.

What are the best ways to prepare with out going into a program or tutoring and what not.

Any good CDs, online tests, etc? Please let me know.

I’m currently using Barron’s but I’ve heard that what they give for practice is usually not found on the test!

How important is it for a sophomore to take both the PSAT and PLAN? Also, assuming he wants to take both the SAT and ACT, is it possible to take them as a junior, again as a senior, and submit the best scores? How often can the test be taken, and can the "worst" ones be deleted? Thanks in advance!
