Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts the National Science Olympiad exam each year in keeping with its responsibility of building a national pool of scientific and Information Technology talent. National Science Olympiad 2009 is the 12th Olympiad in SOF’s endeavor. Apart from building a national pool of young scientists, SOF is also bestowed with the responsibility of inculcating in young minds a feeling of national belongingness and unified fraternity in the field of Science and IT, by promoting talent in these fields and setting them up on a global platform.

Initiatives like National Science Olympiad act as a platform to bring about a practical approach to learning in the field of Science and IT. SOF expects a participation of over 30,000 students from classes II to XII in the National Science Olympiad 2009 across India. National Science Olympiad is a rage amongst school students and is considered as one of the most prestigious science competitions in India. To encourage increased levels of participation, SOF sends out prospectus, posters and registration forms to schools all across India a few weeks prior to the Olympiad. SOF also keeps schools updated about the date and venue of the first round of examination of the National Science Olympiad.

All students from classes II to XII are eligible to participate in National Science Olympiad. National Science Olympiad takes place in two rounds. The first round involves the participation of all the registered students from classes II to XII. It is from this round that the top 500 students and all school toppers from each grade get qualified for the second round of the National Science Olympiad. All India Toppers from classes II to VIII are awarded a gold medal and a laptop and the All India Toppers from classes IX to XII are given a cash prize of Rs 51,000/-Students who secure Rank 2 at the all India level in National Science Olympiad from classes II to VIII are given a silver medal and a laptop, and students from classes IX o XII securing 2nd Rank are a given a cash prize of Rs 31,000/-. This is not all! Top 500 students from each grade are awarded with cash prizes and/or goodies. Also, students who manage to secure 50% and above are awarded with a Certification of Participation at Level I.

Now, let us take a closer look at the examination pattern for the National Science Olympiad. At both the levels of National Science Olympiad the examination paper is divided into two sections. The first section is Mental Ability and the second section is Science that carries 15 and 35 questions respectively. The syllabus for National Science Olympiad is aligned with the prescribed syllabus of CBSE, ICSE and other State Boards.

i took the SAT courses and the highest i got is 1500 on the diagnostic test and the real SAT i got a 1380 which is terrible cause my cousin got a 1800 and were the same age i dont knw if the ACT will get me a higher score since im better at science then at grammer and reading. plz i need to knw im almost finished with my junior year and my gpa is going down cause i messed up junior year and gpa went down from a 3.5 to a 3.2?

Hey , I just started preparing for the ACT I got the Barron’s ACT 36 Aiming For The perfect score and so far the book is pretty good.
I had planed for myself that I would study 10 pages each day form a chapter . if i do this it will take me 8 days for the English , 8 days for the Math , 5 days for the Reading , 6 days for the science , and 2 days for the Writing.

If I do that I’ll have the chance to practice a lot and see my weakest point and get back to it and practice more.
My Question is : Is it a good idea to do it like this ?

I got the following on my ACT test score.

English: 18
Math: 21
Reading: 24
Science: 20

COMPOSITE: 21

Here is the whole story. I was taking practice tests and I did great on it. I am confident until the test day. I woke up worried that I am going be late. The whole time in the car, I was cramming up for some extra practice stuff. I went to my test center and it was full of bull crap. It was a very poor colleges with students misbehaving. The supervisor of the test was an ass. She almost had to frisk me because she thought I faked my ID. During the test, this girl was sitting behind me wearing perfume that almost suffocated me during the test. People talking on their CELL PHONE during the test. The supervisor was sitting on her ass sleeping. It was break time and three people were missing for the test. We had wait on them for 20 minutes. I knew the questions but the whole testing arrangement was like living in hell.

How should I handle this next time?

I got a Composite score of19 on my ACT. A 19 in English. A 16 in Math. A 19 in reading. And a 21 in science. In Michigan, if you pass the ACT you can receive, I believe a ,000 scholarship. Do you know what the passing score is? Also, I’m going to college no matter what, but I would like to go to a University. Pending on whether or not I have the money to get into college by the time I graduate, if I don’t I am navy bound. Any tips? Should I retake the test? What did you get?

( A lot of questions and info, i know. Just kinda nervous as to how soon graduation is coming up. Class of 2008! )

Alrighty, now here’s the deal. I took my ACT back in April and scored a 27 on it. From what I understand, that’s a pretty respectable score. However, I took the most recent SAT and scored a composite of 1790.

After comparing statistics of the two tests, I’m led to believe that I have done considerably worse than on my ACT. Am I wrong or am I right? If so, please give me some advice as how to I can improve my scores (ACT: Math – 27 ; Reading – 23 ; Science – 29 ; Writing – 31 ~ SAT: Reading – 580 ; Math – 590 ; Writing – 620)

Also, I sent my SAT scores to four colleges under the impression that I did well. I sent them to LSU, Texas A&M, Tulane, and Baylor. Will they laugh at me and turn me down at first glance because of these scores???

I got my April score back on the 15th and it’s not good enough for the top universities where I want to go.

Composite: 31
English: 30
Math: 33
Reading: 30
Science: 29 (31 last time)

I already did the practice tests in The Real ACT Prep Guide. I have heard that the Barron’s book for the ACT is harder than the actual test and prepares you a lot better. Any suggestions because I would really want a 32/33

hi, im too impatient. the test was today, and inever thought id run out of time in the science and reading. im pretty sure i scored really well in math and writing though. ok, so what would be the range if i scored the vast majority of the first stories in both, science and reading, right, and then for each of the last story of each category i got maybe 25 % right (sicne i filled the same row answers for the last stories).
