Well I’m 12 years old and I’m a straight A student and I’m going to 7th grade. It has always been my dream to go to Princeton. How can you get in? What score do you have to get on the SAT? What are some kind of preparation sites that I can go to? My plan is to study over the summer each year till 12 grade so I can be ready. Also what clubs can I get into that will look good on my application? Any of you who took the SAT was it hard? How much money do you have to pay to get in? I’m planning to get a job and save up money and whatever is left over my mom can pay off. How do you get a scholar ship? Also any of you who went to Princeton is the work really really hard if so can you give me some tips? Thankyou very much if you answered this, I really appreciated it.!

I’ve always been very considerate to my mother who works insanely hard for me and my two brothers. Before I wasn’t that outgoing (I went out every 2 or 3 weeks) but now that I have these really cool and fun friends I hang out like two times per week (Fridays and Saturdays) and I spend around to every time I go out. That being said, I feel I’m kinda overloading my mom with all that money, but I still want to hang out. I really don’t know what to do, specially now that she’s paying 0 for my SAT preparation class. I told her I was going to get a part time job, but concerned about my grades (which are pretty good all A’s and B’s) she said that not until summer. Now I’m really screwed cuz tomorrow I’m going to power pizza with my friends which is $ 10 and on Saturday I’m going to the mall and invited a girl out so is like to . What should I do. My friends won’t get pissed or anything if I cancel, but I really want to go.

Hi, I’m a Sophomore in High school (Oregon). Today I was talking with my mom about my future and college. Since my family really can’t afford to send me to college I have to get a Scholarship no matter what.
In my Freshman yr, which I heard was just as important as Senior yr I kinda screwed up. I got As & Bs but I think I got a C in Algebra and I’m retaking it. Right now I am taking AP History
So the question is how do I get a scholarship? I’m a normal student with average grades. I’m taking golf as a sport also I know that the SATs are very very important.
The school I want to go to is Oregon State University. Is a university a good place to learn how to be a graphic designer? Because my dream job is to be a Graphic Designer. Please help me. I really really want to go to college and I’m not very special in school. I’m a average student !

My Math Plan – In Junior yr I’m going to take Geometry & Algebra 2, so that in Senior yr I can take the next math course which is… I don’t remember. Can you tell me :}
Also how can I study for my SATs and are there any good Pre-SAT online tests I can take?

I’m going away for 10 days and I’m leaving my puppy with my mom’s good friend. I feel so guilty but I don’t really have much choice. I know she’s going to give him as much love as she can. She even said she would send her cat to her mothers place while he’s there.

I was reading somewhere that I could leave one of my shirts with him in his bed so he can always smell me, but I’m also worried about separation anxiety; even though I might not even need to worry about it.

He’s almost 8 months old and I’ve had him since Feb. There’s no chance he won’t remember me when I get back right? Anything else that I can do to make his stay better?

I had this dream last night and me and my mom and grandma were in my grandma’s house and this weird guy was tutoring my brother for some SAT test (my brother is 10!) and he was acting idiotic and I said he needs to ‘fucking shut up.’ Then he chased me around outside and my grandma did top and they started yelling. Then my grandma said "LET’S WATCH PRINCESS BRIDE!" And she took the DVD out of her pocket and stuck in in the DVD slot. And when we were watching it, we were part of the movie. And we got to meet the actors beforehand and there was this guy that was like ten, but for some reason I kept going back to him telling him that my mom was in love with him. (It wasn’t even a real actor!) And then there was one part where I was part of the movie, and I was fighting off an army of two year olds in raincoats (yes, I’m serious) that had swords. Then I wasn’t part of the movie anymore, and I was just watching it regularly with my mom and grandma. And in the part of the movie, (continued)
we were watching, there was a whole team of giant mice called the Badingalings and they wanted to join some kindom with a 15 year old king named Polpydolpy. Then Robert Smith (from The Cure) was playing some drunk prince and he started singing a song about being drunk or something … and he was trying to kill the mice. And then that giant guy from the REAL Princess Bride was with the drunk guy and both of them tried to kill the mice. And then there was that puss in boots guy from shrek singing some song and dancing around with that giant guy and Robert Smith.

I don’t remember much more, but when the movie was over, my mom bought the soundtrack (she didn’t really go out and buy it … it just appeared.) And I remember one of the songs and it went like this (continued)

I was recently accepted into Yale and they had this program for our newspaper where they gathered up kids who were accepted into the Ivies in our county (district). There were about 12 kids total, 10 from private schools and 2 from public schools (me being one of them). Now whenever my parents tell people that I am going to Yale, people all of a sudden start telling me "oh my god you must be bright" and often everyone wants to sit down and have a conversation with me about politics and my opinion on things that concern the nation (Healthcare and what we should do to create more jobs).

I am going to be honest here, I am not a moron but in NO way am I even beyond intelligent, maybe a little above average at best. The only way I was able to get into an Ivy was through pure luck. So I had the opportunity to talk to the other 11 kids who made it to the Ivies. I assumed that they were all going to be geniuses beyond my league, well here are some things I hear from them.

1. "Dude I only made it to Harvard because the high school I went to did not have a tough grading system, if teachers liked you, you made an A in the classes".
2. "Yea, I made it into Princeton because my parents paid for prep courses so I could score high on the SAT. I took it about 6 times, made a 1540 the first time and the 6th time around I made a 2230".
3. "Like I was lucky to make it into Brown, I only made it in because I played on the football team, teachers liked me so I had a high GPA and parents hired a tutor so I could perform well on the SATs".
4. "Yea man I made into Cornell because like my dad had me do research with this old guy over the summer and it looked good on my resume. I mean, I am happy, now my mom even lets me watch Porn without throwing a fit". (I coughed).
5. "I can’t even freaking believe that people think we are bright, I mean we are just people who know somebody, do our work in school and don’t sleep through classes."

So I had the opportunity to talk to those kids and I was stunned. Most did not even know the basics and a lot of them could not even debate efficiently on topics involving politics.

Why in god’s name do people think kids who get into Ivies are smart?

I’m taking the ACT test tomorrow with a cold and healing laryngitis. My mom wouldn’t let me re-schedule because she didn’t want to pay the fine, so I’m taking it anyway.
Do you know if I’m allowed to bring tissues or a handkerchief? And can I keep cough drops in my pocket? I know water’s not allowed but it said nothing about those items.

I’m 15 and i have a friend who is always saying stuff like, "you think your mom feeds you healthy? whatever, my mom, well she made us pumpkin soup with steamed spinach and a vegetable casserole! SHE makes healthy food." Or we will be talking about Chemistry and she will say, "Well my mom makes me go in to tutoring. Unlike yours" She acts like my mom is a terrible mom and tells me that to my face all the time and i have gotten quite frustrated and doesn’t know what to do when she says that because i don’t want to be rude. She will say things too like, "I studied all week for this test YOU THINK THAT YOU STUDIED HARD? i studied all week!" when so have i! Her mother is the same way and is a goody goody and "perfection is key" and all this crap. She will downgrade me when i have a boyfriend and tells me that i am ruining my innocence because i held his hand. When i have never had sex or even kissed a guy,ever! She acts like my parents are terrible people and her parents are such good parents and do everything right. I have told her my secrets and she just ends up telling her parents. She isn’t a very good friend to me but she’s in all my classes and i have to put up with her because she sits next to me and we do everything together. HELP!

We also have this project due tomorrow and she probably won’t have her half done and i’m scared i’m going to get a bad grade because "She didn’t get around to it"

So I was accepted into Yale University a few weeks ago and it was an exciting thing for me. I had a 3.5 GPA at a hyper competitive magnet school (all honors courses), a great background story (learned to speak English fluently when I was 12), recommendation letter from congressman and a 1520 on the math and reading section of the SAT.

So yesterday I had the opportunity to meet other kids who made it into the Ivies. There were 12 total kids from the county I live in who made it in, 10 being private school kids and 2 being public school kids (me and one other kid).

I talked to the other kids and the stories shocked me. One girl said she had a 4.0 GPA because the teachers know better than to give her anything lower, she said she would get her dad to get a teacher fired if a teacher was to give her a B. One other guy said he made a 2350 after taking the SAT over 8 times, he said his parents paid for tutors and prep courses. Another kid I talked to did not even know a thing about Physics (he did not know that gravity’s value is -9.81 ms^2).

Most of the kids I talked to said that you don’t have to be a genius in order to get into an Ivy. One kid said he was accepted because his dad went to Harvard along with his mom and he didn’t need to worry one bit.

The high school I went to has some very motivated students and bright students who will end up at state universities at best.

I am just wondering, are these kids a misrepresentation of kids at Ivies or are there a lot of kids who get into the Ivies based on who they know?
