Can someone answer my questions about taking the ACT?

-Is the ACT (minus the optional essay part) completely multiple choice or will there be short answers and such?

-What can I do to prepare for the ACT, especially the math section?

-How many parts or subjects are there?

I’m taking the ACT for the first time this Saturday and I’m really nervous. I haven’t been in a math class since last school year due to a schedule conflict with the school, so I’m really dreading the math part and that’s my biggest worry. Well, I’m actually dreading the entire test in all honesty. Anyways, can someone please be so kind as to answer my questions and offer some advice or tips?

Thanks!

Doing well on SAT results from practicing problems? Do I have a chance?

My goal is to score a 700+ on each of the three sections of the SATS. My PSATs had projected that I will fall somewhere in the middle – low range (My PSAT percentile were 51, 50, 49)

I will be taking the SATs in the spring of my Jr. year, this year.
The biggest trouble I have is dealing with the math section. It requires knowledge of mathematical concepts (Alg + Geometry) and logic to manipulate variables to get the desired outcome.(which requires understanding of the question)

I do very well in math class and I understand most if not all of the concepts but I can’t seem to grasp the ‘how-to-answer-correctly’ well in the math section of the SAT. (esp. the second session in which they give you patterns and word problems)

So I have two questions:
1. Given my PSAT scores, which is the equivalent of a (510, 500, 490), are my goals for the SAT farfetched? Sure anything can happen but what does statistics say? Am I likely to get within 100 more/less points of the PSAT scaled scores?
2. Does preparing extensively help? Or does preparation go beyond practicing so as to rely on prior knowledge? (Can I still get a good score by learning to do questions claimed to be similar in difficulty to the SAT questions?)

I want to get to Dartmouth College =(((((.

College/Sat Subject Question?

I’m a highschool junior, GPA 3.9, 6 AP classes, all other classes honors, volunteer work, extracurriculars, blah blah blah. I’m aspiring for Princeton University but I’m realistically also applying to the College of New Jersey and the University of Rochester.

I originally signed up to take the Literature and Biology subject tests in May but I felt unprepared and so, about two days before the test, I decided to take the Reasoning instead. On the day of the exam, I switched to the Reasoning with absolutely no preparation. I scored a 1900. I’m pretty confident I can pull up my score to a 2200 during the summer (my proctor cut off the math section 6 minutes early, so I didn’t have time to answer 7 of the 15 questions. my math score sucked) and I was planning on retaking it in October and possibly November, if necessary.

So I moved the subject tests to June. About a week and a half ago, I started studying for Bio, Lit, and now Spanish. Here’s the problem: I still feel completely unprepared. My biology grade isn’t breaking a 600 really. I mean, I’m not done studying (I haven’t covered organ systems yet and I need to go over Mitosis and Meiosis), but I feel like I should be at least reaching the 600 mark. I took a literature diagnostic test and I scored, I think, a 37 raw score. And I’ve done absolutely no preparation for Spanish. My spanish class at school is a joke. I’ve taken it for 3 years but I’ve learned, without exaggeration, absolutely nothing. In Freshman year, we covered verb tenses for a week but I hardly remember anything. I am a Native Speaker, though.

I need to break a 720 in all three tests (or at least two of the three).

What should I do? Should I take the SAT II’s on Saturday and just retake them in December (the latest possible date I can take them I think before applications go out..) or should I not take them at all until my Senior year? If I manage to get my desired SAT reasoning in October, then I could take them in november. If I don’t, then I’d take the SAT reasoning for a third time in November and my SAT II in december.

Help?

SAT question..?

A little over a year ago I took the PSAT and did horribly. I was extremely unprepared and I did not even have the motivation to do well – especially since there was a lot of Algebra 2 stuff in the math section (I am taking Algebra 2 this year).

I’m now going to retake the PSAT in October, I’m buying a few test prep books, and a week or two before the test, I’m going to join a SAT prep course class.

I really want to aim for scores between 600-660.

Do you think with this preparation, I could do it?

I take the online tests, but honestly, it’s hard enough to focus on the screen – so I make careless errors. Haha, it’ll sound stupid, but it’s easier taking a test on paper than it is the computer.

Should I do all practice tests to study for the SAT or just straight study from the prep book?

I’m retaking the SATs next week and i need to do a lot better on the math section…

So, I was thinkng about doing like a practice test each day (starting tomorrow) for like 4 hours and I will just review what I did wrong in the math section using the study section (I don’t have to worry about english because I’m already really good at that).

Or, do you reccommend me just studying from the math section (study part of the SAT book) via notecards (which I made all over the summer…(but never had the time to study with)…

Any suggestions to approaching the math part of the exam (besides getting enough sleep and having a good breakfast!)

Thanks!

Does my SAT score drop make sense?

I recently took the SAT for the first time. I had taken the PSAT and I had also worked through the latest Princeton Review prep book and taken five practice tests. My scores had drastically improved and after I took the SAT I was confident that I did well. When I received my scores, they made no sense compared to my previous performances. For instance, on the PSAT I scored a 630 in writing. After the prep book, when I took a practice test I would score a 760. On my SAT I ended up scoring a 610. Also, it has been said by Princeton Review that the biggest score increase is normally on the math section, but on my math section my score dropped forty points from my PSAT score. Does this make sense?

ACT test score improvement?

just wondering… if i had answered 4 more questions correctly in the math section, would my overall score have gone up one point?

Now that I bombed my ACT test, I'm trying to decide what Fast food resturaunt I should work in?

Well, there you have it. After day dreaming my way through high school, I took my test of doom. I received a 20 the first time. Of course, today I retook the test and completely bombed it. I was dumb enough to not review the math section beforehand and I ended up guessing on all the questions. When I say I guessed on the math and science section, I literally guessed. So, what fast food restaurant should I work in for my occupation? I can’t believe I was day dreaming.
I don’t know, but I need all the points I can get. :( Why me?
ACT hun it’s not the SAT.

The ACT is out of 36 points.
No, I did not. Only the ACT.
It’s funny because people who actually did their homework in high school received the same score as me. It was around a 21.
Of course I took the ACT prep. Did I pay attention to any of it? Of course not. No, I’m not going out of the country to study. I’m just go into a community and technical college and actually take advantage of the NEEDED EDUCATION they offer there. High school was a complete waste.
