Hi! All of the colleges that I’m interested in accept both the SAT and ACT. Until recently, I never even gave the ACT a second thought, as the SATs are the only ones I’ve really ever heard a lot about. What appeals to me about the ACT is:
- There is no penalty for a wrong answer.
- It is all in one test, so no SAT subject tests are required (I have a really bad injury that prevents me from sitting for long periods, so if I can get it all over in one shot, it’s better than taking the regular SAT, plus 2-3 subject tests).
- I know that the math section of the ACT covers more topics (more advanced), and where math is my strongest suit, I feel that it would show colleges that I have more than simply a 10th grade, basic understanding of math (like the SAT would show).
- You can choose which scores get submitted to each college.
So, do you think that this would be a good fit? Do colleges look down on the ACT? Thank you very much!
To the first person, um yes, Ivies do accept the ACTs. I just looked at Yale and Harvard’s websites and they BOTH say that you can either take the SAT I and 2-3 subject tests (2 for Yale, 3 for Harvard), OR the ACT w/ the writing section. I’m sure the others allow it too — I just can’t be bothered to look up any others.
