This year I would have been a senior at a high school in New York City. I dropped out of my junior year of high school with a 98.9% GPA. A few months ago I finished my G.E.D. and will be attending community college this fall. I want to transfer to a good college in New York City (NYU, Hunter, etc). My only problem — sometimes I score really badly in standardized tests.

I took the ACT and had a overall score of 17.
English: 20
Mathematics: 17
Reading: 15
Science: 14

SAT score:
English: 780
Math: 340 (TERRIBLE!!!)

I am DEVOTED in changing my scores around this fall so I can go to a good college. I did try tutors last year but they didn’t work very well (everything just went in one ear and out the other). Do you guys have any tips (good books, study habits) I could use to achieve these goals of mine??? I won’t stop! I won’t stop!

okay so im in 11th grade i get good grades about a 95+ average
i took an SAT course and then took the real SAT and got about an 850-900 not counting the writing
are there ways i can study for it?
would reading more books help?
cause i want to go to a good college but im not sure i can with such a low score

Ok, hi, I am a student currently in Illinois. I have a G.P.A of 4.67 weighted and unweighted 4.00. Currently, I am ranked # 1 in my class. I have an I.Q. of 126-130.
For my junior year I am taking :
A.P. Spanish Language
Precalculus Honors
Physics Honors
A.P. U.S. History
A.P. Chem
A.P. English
A.P. Psychology
Gym

I also plan to volunteer 200 hours, and I am planning to join a few clubs. Also, I took a sophomore practice ACT test here are my scores.

English: 23
Math: 28
Reading: 23
Science: 25
Composite: 25

After doing some review today I took a practice English ACT and got a 28, took a practice reading and got a 30. So here’s my question. What are the chances and how can I get at least a 32 composite? Also, what are the chances that I can get into a good college such as the university of chicago? Thank you all and good luck with you studies also. Sorry about spelling errors my keyboard sucks!

I dropped out of high school and i want to get into a good college . I recently was informed this was possible . I have to take the ACT test and go from there . I don’t know where to go to take this test and I would also appreciate tips on the test and also where i need to go from there . Overall , how to make the most of this second chance.

Or would it be smarter to take a year preparation break?

I ask this question not because I want to work for 4+ years and maybe go to college but due to the fact I don’t feel prepared.

I’m getting a 4.0 GPA with AP classes and I’m participating in track and also in National Honor Society doing community service, I however, fall in SAT scores.

As of now, I have everything to my advantage expect the fact I’m only at 1200+ SAT scores, (which is really confidence destroying low)

For me, I want to go to an all-around good college, not overly prestigious nor underly funded, but a balance in quality of life (I’m spending 4+ years there, I better enjoy it)

As I’ve researched many colleges over the months, most of the colleges with best value for education have semi-high standards. My favorite being University of Illinois at Urbana. Requiring at at least 560+ each section on SATs. Yet my highest SAT score was 510 in reading.

I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to take a year break solely to study for those next SATs and apply.

I know it’s not all about SATs but surely they have a cut off line, and I guarantee they’ll cut off my application when they see my extremely low SATs.

Or am I making a mistake? Will I be at a disadvantage applying?
