I recently took a practice SAT in preparation for the real SAT in May. I just got my results. I got a 1790 overall, 510 for math, 600 critical reading, 680 for writing, and 8 for the essay.
My question is if these scores are good, considering it is my first SAT.
Also, what can I do to improve them? What did you guys do?
What colleges will these scores get me into?
I’m a junior currently.
Thanks
Im going into 9th and im starting to worry about this stuff…my parents were born in india and are no help cuz they have less clue then i do on how this stuff works?! I have figured out a lot by looking at other ppl who asked questions but i still have some…
1) What are the best books to study for the SAT I …if i want to be a neurologist which SAT II should i really take?
2) IF anyone has taken SAT prep courses at Kaplan or the such do u think it helped any? is it worth it?
3) Are there any free sites i can practice on?
4) If i take the PSAT in 9th grade and completely suck, then will colleges ignore me? is it better to not take it…or is it truly only practice and helps out on the REAL PSAT?
5) Anything else that u think is important to know?
plz help me out..i really have no1 to ask and well..i havent met my Counsler for highskool yet but if the middle skool ones were anything to go by they wont help, to racist…
So I got a 650 on BIology E, and a 600 on US history. I was wondering if I should retake them because I’m afraid of doing worse. I had to take it in May because I couldn’t take the June one, so it was before the AP exams and I didn’t feel well prepared. If I did want to retake it, I would have to wait until after summer in October or something.
I am going to take Biology M too. But for the US History one, I didn’t study at all, I just took what I remembered from class the whole year because I didn’t have time since I was studying for the BIology E one. So do you think I will improve if I retake it?
I don’t plan to major in history, but in Biology instead. I don’t need an Ivy League Status score, but one that will get me into a UC at least or will get colleges to think, "Hey, this girl is a good biology student."
Thanks for your input!
I am a honors student, taking AP classes. I have a 4.0 GPA average, with a 103 overall average. I took the SAT’s only once this May and scored 560 on the Verbal, 640 on Math, and 530 on the Writing. I was wondering if a 1200 is a fair score. Will my current academic status assist me in getting into good colleges? Although, I took nearly 13 practice SAT tests, I am scoring relatively the same. Should I take it again this october? How much do you think I will improve?
Now my GPA is down right horrible.
I think it’s currently around 2.0
I know, I’m a horrible slacker.
I just don’t have motivation.
But when it comes to college I know I absolutely want to go to a reputable one.
I’ve always dreamed of NYU but I understand my GPA is making that nearly impossible.
I’m almost at mid Junior year and I recieved my PSAT scores.
I’ve always done well on tests and I have much more ability then I give effort (Which explains high test scores with a low GPA)
I am confident that I can make above the 2000’s on my SATs
So my question is: Do you think I can make it into a good college?
If not, is there any advice you can give on what I can do to improve how I look to these colleges?
I’ve also had a part-time job since I was 15 1/2 and I have volunteer work to add onto my resume.
Thanks for the responses, they really help.
Also, I know I should start to bring up my GPA which I still have a lot of time to do.
How high would I have to bring up my GPA to overlook the horrible grades in my previous years?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how soon colleges receive SAT scores? If I decide to send my scores to colleges upon signing up for the SAT, do the colleges receive the scores as soon as I receive mine online?
i.e. If I took the test Oct. 6, and the scores are online by Oct 30th, will the colleges receive the scores on the 30th?
Is the writing really hard to do well on? At this SAT preparation course students, including my friend and I, took practice tests similar to the SAT, which I know because of taking tests from the blue College Board book and asking another friend who took the SAT and the same course when she was our age, about 2-3 years ago.
My friend got an 800 on writing, and I got a 740, but for some reason when she took the real SAT (I haven’t yet), she only scored a 600. What gives? She was really good at writing and did assignments for 25 minutes in 10 minutes, getting maybe 1 wrong. Also the person who is most likely gonig to be valedictorian at our school only got a 710.
Any tips? In the College Board book I’m scoring in the 700s, getting only maybe 4 wrong with. I think my essays are pretty good. I need a good writing score because math is the easiest for me, probably a pretty easy 770+, but critical reading I’m only getting mid to high 600s. I was counting on the writing, which is easy for me, to get me around 2150-2200, but people aren’t doing good on it. Why?? Advice???
Also, on the PSAT I got a 68 on writing (HOWEVER, only 3 were wrong and none blank; it must have been a bad curve, and after looking at the PSAT I realized one or two of those errors were really stupid mistakes).
I know I need a good score for good colleges. I don’t really need help with writing since I’m getting almost every question right under timed conditions. I just don’t get why such smart people are doing so poorly, including my friend who got an 800 on writing for a practice test similar to the SAT.
I looked online at the test scores received at all of the colleges I applied to and only one of my SAT test scores are shown as received, even though I took it twice. Did they still receive my other SAT score? I thought all of them were supposed to be sent. I sent them back at in November.
without any specific practice for sat i scored above 1450 in diagnostic test…math 510 C.R 500 and writing 440(excluding essay)…i am foreign student and english is my second language…i have more than 3 month for sat preparation..how much can i improve and what is minimum requirement for admission in colleges of USA???
i just finished my 12th class.
