SAT or ACT?

I dunno if I should take the ACT or SAT again. I had a bad morning the day I took the ACT, I hadn’t gotten any sleep, couldn’t find my calculator, and I had no idea what the format of the test was like because I never looked up anything about it. I ended up with a 29 when I know I’m capable of better since so many things went wrong that day. The SAT I didn’t prepare for. I got a 740 math, 720 reading, 660 writing. I feel like I could do better if I attempted to get a prep book or something.

I don’t really have the money to take both tests, but I figured I’d try to improve my score on one of them to send to colleges since next year is my senior year.

Which should I take? Should I take the ACT and send both scores if I improve that one? Or drop my ACT score and improve my SAT score?

Do I have any chance of getting into Princeton?

I will apply for the class of 2015. Do I have any chance at all?

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.5 weighted
Rank: 18/656, top 3% (may go up)
Class schedule: very rigorous
Senior courses: Spanish III, Eng IV Hon, Physics Hon, AP Stat, AP Calc
AP classes: I will take the Chem and Gov tests in May. Expecting 3 and 4.

Awards: Local writing awards, Rising Sunshine State Scholar

Extracurriculars: Academic team (captain), Math Honor Society (president), NHS (vice president), FIRST Robotics (historian/parts manager)

Service: Relay for life team, tutoring math every week grade 10, 11, and 12; mentoring children-about 80 hours

Recommendations: Pretty good

Essays: I am a great writer, so hopefully great.

SAT score: Low end, 2100 ish
ACT score: Haven’t taken, probably about 30
SAT Subject tests: I have no idea, but also on the low end I assume. (I will be taking Math II and Chem)

Lastly, I am a legacy.

Do I have any shot? I really wish Princeton had an ED.

My thoughts are if I can just raise my test scores I will be relatively competitive.

Thanks.

Will taking the ACT test ONLY decrease my chances in getting accepted to universities in CA (pub/private)?

Okay I am in a dilemma..
Currently, I am a junior in highschool, who gets pretty decent grades (3.5 unweighted GPA first semester, aiming for 4.0 this semester..starting out with all As..right on track ) I am taking a couple of honors, AP, and regular classes. My question is that will only taking the ACT test decrease my chances into getting into universities here in California? with of the competition going around.. (Is it more SAT based or what?) I’m really scared of whats going to happen in the future.. I got a 1400 on my SATs (didn’t study really..) which is like below average..and on practice tests i would get around that same score range..I feel like I will never get a good score on the SATs..
I took the ACT test last week and I felt like I blew through that test. It seemed very easier than the SAT test..I feel more confident with what my ACT score will be , but I don’t wanna say anything until I see the actual score. Should I quit my SAT classes and switch over to ACT classes? Advice would be VERY much appreciated..

Should I retake the SAT I?

Ok, here is the story. I got a 30 on my ACT the first time, which was my goal, but my SAT score was a 1730. The scores don’t correlate because I was expecting somewhere between a 1900-2000 range. The SAT is a harder test and I know I can improve the score, but the question is, if I don’t reach my goal score 1900-2000 how will they look at it, compared to my ACT score. Should I retake it? Thanks.

Act test quetstion. Advice please?

I took the ACT my junior year, I scored a 21. I am now 20 years old and am going to college at a university. But its not the college of my dreams because I couldn’t get into the college of choice because of my ACT score. How do I go about retaking that ACT test. Its been 4 years since I took it, can I even take it at my age? I am actually smart and I was going through a really difficult time in high school and I know I will do better this time I am aiming for at least a 26. My question is has anyone ever increased their score by a lot the 2nd time around and also how do I go about retaking the test. THANKS

Should I take the ACT and the SAT?

My ACT score is a 33 currently, and I plan to get it up to a 35, but my SAT score is around a 2100 without any preparation. I want to apply to competitive schools, so would it be beneficial to take both the SAT and ACT (after studying a lot for the SAT) or just take my ACT and leave it at that?

basically, does it make a difference if you send in both scores or not?
thanks!

What are my chances of being accepted at Northwestern?

Northwestern is my absolute dream school, but I’ve recently started to second-guess my chances of admission. Most of this stress has come about as a result of what I see as a terrible ACT score (29). I’ve always been a poor test-taker, and I’m just hoping that a below-average (for NU, at least) performance on one standardized test doesn’t completely diminish any hopes of attending Northwestern. Here are my stats:

GPA (weighted): 4.09
ACT: 29
Class rank: 8 of 262
AP classes: I’ve taken 5 so far (I’ve just finished my junior year) and I’ll be taking 2-3 more during my senior year. I’ve taken national exams for all of these classes, with one 5, one 4, and three 3s (unfortunately).
- General info: I’m a white female with no legacy at NU.

Extracurriculars:

- I’m a member of my city’s Youth Advisory Council, serving both on the Core board and one subcommittee. We plan events, help at community outings, and make decisions regarding youth programs within our city.

- Newspaper column: I’ve written a monthly pop culture column in my local newspaper for nearly 4 years.

- Dance: My city holds a large annual Dutch heritage festival, and I’ve performed as a traditional "Klompen" dancer for 3 years.

- Theatre: 2 years of involvement in school theatre, in addition to lifelong participation in community theatre.

- People to People Student Ambassadors: I spent three weeks in Europe as a P2P Student Ambassador. In addition to touring Italy, France, and England, we also participated in a community service project and met with several public officials (including a member of Parliament).

- Music: I played cello in my school orchestra for 6 years (I was forced to drop the class this year as a result of scheduling conflicts)

- PALs: Peer Assistance and Listening — I was nominated for this program by peers and teachers. As a PAL, I serve as a peer counselor for fellow students and spend one hour a day working with younger students in a middle school classroom.

- Tutoring: I tutor 7th-graders for one hour a week after school.

- In 8th grade, I received a Best-in-State award at the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C. for my documentary on Dr. Jack Kevorkian and assisted suicide.

- I took two years of college-level writing in 7th and 8th grade through a local university.

- Also involved with: National Honor Society, SADD, Student Council, and Amnesty International.

I have visited Northwestern and hope to apply early (not ED). If admitted, I would like to seek a major in Radio, Television, and Film.
Do you think there is still a chance of admission, especially given my low ACT score? Thanks in advance– I’ve been freaking myself out about this, so I’d like a few outside (and perhaps more well-informed) opinions. :)

I took my first ACT practice test, should I register for the real one?

Hi, I am going to be a high school senior.

I decided to take an ACT practice test to see if I would get a high score but I am unfamiliar with the scoring and what is considered high or not.

English: 31
Math: 34
Reading: 28
Science: 29 (ran out of time for last 4 questions but if I didn’t, it would be 36)
Average: 30.5 –> 31
Writing Composite: ~29 (can range from 27 to 30 since there’s no one definite score for the essay)

Is this considered high? I really want to get into Columbia University but my SAT score (1980) isn’t high enough. Based on this practice test, will my ACT score be higher than my SAT score (I’m retaking SAT in October)?

Thank you =)
I took the downloadable sample test from their website act.org

How can I improve ACT test score to get a 28 composite?

I have a 21 on the ACT test.. I am hoping to get it closer to 28. I own a Princeton ACT and SAT book. I want toi some online websites that some of you guys used to get a high ACT score. Also if there any tips for the reading and science or any portion of the test that are good please tell me..

Ps ..I am much weaker in reading and Writing but stronger in Maths

My plan is to get a 31 on Math, 25 reading, 28 science, 28 writing

Thank you for your suggestions
