That’s not a bad score, especially if it was your first time taking a practice test.
The best way to study for the SAT is to do a lot of practice tests from books like The Official Study Guide for the SAT by collegeboard, Princeton Review, Kaplan, Barrons, etc. Do many practice tests and analyze your score and the questions that you got wrong. Find out general strategies like when to guess, process of elimination, and order of difficulty.
Study math topics that you have trouble on. Write a lot of essays in 25 minutes to practice and read a lot of newspapers and magazines. Practice critical reading and look up any words that are unfamiliar to you. Put the words on flashcards so you can practice in your spare time.

You can also consider taking an SAT prep class. Your high school might have one available to students.

And remember to just relax because the SAT is just part of your application. High school grades and course load are much more important than the SAT. Spend a lot of time writing your college admissions essay because that is where you show the admissions officer, who has seen thousands of applications that have good grades and SAT scores, that you stand out and are unique from other people. And don’t forget to do extracurricular activities and to volunteer too!

what you should do is disregard your writing score and take the remaining 2 as your total because most colleges do not take writing into account and base the score out of 1600. so youd have an 860…which, depending on what college your looking for is not too great…id take them again
