Can I get into collegel with a 2.9 highschool gpa?
So, there is some reasoning behind the low figure. I went to a very difficult prep school for the 1st 2 years. In this school, there was no class rank and gpa’s were generally low, (ie this school wasn’t subject to the grade inflation issue these days). So I averaged a 2.9 the first 2 years. Then I transferred to a public school which is also one of the best in state. I’m taking all advanced courses, have a number of ap’s on my belt, and scored a 1340 on my math verbal SAT. My gpa in just my public school time is at 3.3 unweighted. I’m involved in a bunch of club, I’m an officer in 2 clubs, have headed events. But my overall class rank sucks (top 60%) because of the 1st two years. Can I get into a decent college? If not, what is the path that I should take?

I got into a reputable school with a 2.3. My SATs were pretty good and my activities (Model United Nations, that kind of thing) might have got me in, and perhaps I had a killer cover letter.

You shouldn’t have a problem, but you might want to go to a J.C. first. It’s cheaper and you can build up your GPA and figure out what you really want to do.

Colleges are aware of what your gpa means in regard to the school you went. A lot of top colleges will have a sheet or something that will tell them how hard it is to get so and so grade, and what the grading scale is like. You have a good SAT score, so colleges might either see that you are smart but lazy or that your GPA might mean more than someone with a 1200 SAT score and 3.6 GPA. I wouldn’t sweat it that much. Just make sure you find like six schools to apply to; two safeties that you would enjoy going to, two matches, and two reaches (one slight and one high). Look at the admission profiles at each school, so you can get a good idea of where you stand.

2.9? i dont think you should have anything to worry about
